Reports about the end of the war in Iraq

Editorial review regarding our soldiers who fought in Iraq by Dan Froomkin   Reports about the end of the war in Iraq routinely describe the toll on the U.S. military 4,487 dead, and 32,226 wounded. The death count is accurate. But the wounded figure wildly understates the number of American service members who have come back from Iraq less than whole. The true number of military personnel injured over the course of our nine-year-long fiasco in Iraq is in the hundreds of thousands — maybe even more than half a million — if you take into account all the men and women who returned from their deployments with traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress, depression, hearing loss, breathing disorders, diseases, and other long-term health problems. We don’t have anything close to an exact number, however, because nobody’s been keeping track. The much-cited Defense Department figure comes from its tally of “ wounded in action ” [PDF] — a narrowly-tailored category that on...

FIRST BIOETHICS CONFERENCE ON CANCER HEATLH DISPARITIES RESEARCH

Editorial Statement: Dr. Neil Schulman a professor/physician at Emory University School of Medicine and am impressed with your FIRST BIOETHICS CONFERENCE ON CANCER HEATLH DISPARITIES RESEARCH. For many years without any success I have been raising issues with media, the medical profession, hospital administrators, legislators, etc. THE INSANITY AND INHUMANE POLICIES IN THIS COUNTRY which allow certain STATE MEDICAID PROGRAMS to prohibit access of patients to Medicaid support when they have early signs of cancer.  The policies in these states PROHIBIT access to early treatment via Medicaid AND THE PATIENTS ARE SENT LETTERS TELLING THEM THAT THEY CANNOT GET COVERAGE UNTIL THEIR CANCER SPREADS.  ACCORDING TO THE LAW, THE PATIENTS MUST BE DISABLED FROM THEIR DISEASE BEFORE THEY CAN GET ACCESS TO MEDICAL CARE. I have had personal discussions relating to this issue with a top administrator for the Medicaid program in Georgia.  He stated that this was VERY...

What is happening to US

Written by, Dennis S Murray Sr. It’s been about three years now sense Former President Bush allowed many American’s to lose their life saving, homes, took us into two Wars, and more. However, for the present two and a quarter years President Obama has tried to reason with Congress to pass regulations, policy, and bills to get our economy on its feet, but we continue to see gridlock in our political system as Congressional members fight like selfish children for the last piece of the pie.   We have many common sense programs or policies that can help the American people stay in their homes and get back to work once again, but common sense is not what we are dealing with when it comes to our political system. Even though President Obama has drop the ball on occasion himself we shouldn’t abandon simple principles that can govern our lives better by being courageous and not stupid. Their is plenty of the blame to go around regardless of whom you talk to say; Michael Moo...

Committing To the Our Children is the First Step in healing America

Editorial Statement Lead Organizer, Lifelines to Healing Campaign PICO National Network             Rev. Michael McBride Even if politicians don’t want to talk about the barriers facing urban youth, we need to! We’re kicking-off this national campaign to save a generation of young people from violence, joblessness and prison with a huge public action meeting hosted by the Micah Project, the local PICO federation. Thousands are expected to attend – including 500 clergy from across the country and buses from as far away as Birmingham and Orlando. All the key decision-makers including New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu have committed to show up -- except the U.S. Department of Justice. Will you help us fill this empty seat by calling the Department of Justice today? For too long, too many elected officials and the media have been silent as more and more of our young people are put behind bars. Strong public leadership from ...
